YS støtter kampen for frihet og likhet i Iran

YS støtter helhjertet kampen for frihet i Iran. Vi tar avstand fra enhver form for undertrykkelse og diskriminering, spesielt mot kvinner og andre undertrykte grupper. YS fordømmer på det sterkeste henrettelser av demonstranter, brudd på ytringsfriheten og andre alvorlige menneskerettighetsbrudd.
Vi ser også med bekymring på at Iran systematisk trakasserer familiemedlemmer til mennesker som demonstrerer.

Det er svært bekymringsfullt å observere den økende undertrykkelsen av kvinner i Iran. I Iran risikerer kvinner alvorlige straffer for å nekte å bruke hijab, eller for å oppfordre andre kvinner til å gjøre det samme.

Konkret kan kvinner som nekter å bruke hijab risikere fengsel i opptil to måneder. I tillegg til dette kan de også bli nektet arbeid og få bilen inndratt. De nye lovene i Iran har gått enda lengre i å straffe dem som oppmuntrer andre til å fjerne hijaben. Disse personene kan nå risikere hele 10 års fengsel for å utføre hva myndighetene kaller «moralsk korrupsjon».

Vi krever at myndighetene i Iran respekterer kvinners rettigheter og menneskerettighetene. Vi vil fortsette å støtte demonstrantene i Iran i deres kamp for likhet og rettferdighet, og mot enhver form for urettferdighet og diskriminering. Vi vil fortsette å følge situasjonen nøye.

YS Norway condemns oppression in Iran

The International Committee of YS Norway supported the following statement on March 13 regarding the human rights situation in Iran.

YS Norway wholeheartedly supports the fight for freedom in Iran. We condemn all forms of oppression and discrimination, especially against women and other oppressed groups. YS strongly condemns the execution of demonstrators, the violation of freedom of speech, and other serious human rights abuses. We are also concerned that Iran systematically harasses family members of people who demonstrate.

It is deeply concerning to observe the increasing oppression of women in Iran. In Iran, women face serious consequences for refusing to wear hijab or for encouraging other women to do the same. Specifically, women who refuse to wear hijab risk up to two months in prison. In addition, they may be denied employment and have their car confiscated. The new laws in Iran go even further in punishing those who encourage others to remove the hijab. These individuals may now face up to 10 years in prison for what the authorities call «moral corruption.»

We demand that the authorities in Iran respect women’s rights and human rights. We will continue to support demonstrators in Iran in their fight for equality and justice, and against any form of injustice and discrimination. We will continue to closely monitor the situation.
